Rustic and refined Italian at Settimo Cielo.
As maverick young chef, Nicholas Lazzaroni takes a final bow at Seminyak's sexy Italian restaurant, Settimo Cielo, veteran chef, Roberto Bogni takes over the stoves. Not surprisingly, working together has proved a learning curve for both chefs and the winner is… us, the diners.A sexy little bistro at the front of the stylish designer villa complex, The Layar, Settimo Cielo may be off the beaten track, although smack in central Seminyak, but it has won a legion of fans.Nicholas created this menu, and his bosses are mainly Italians, so he had a tough audience to start with. He wowed them with some of his own dishes including the crab ragu on home-made pappardelle which is still one of their best sellers. The sexy Italian bistro serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner and the grazing menu at lunch, when Rp225,000 will buy all you can eat from a fabulous selection of dishes, pappardelle remains their most popular. The menu travels the boot, with some great starters including a raw and cured menu, some delicious bruschetta, arancini and the like.Salads are also creative, like the grilled baby octopus with potatoes basking in a garlicky lemon vinaigrette, confit tuna or warm vegetables and soft goat cheese.Pastas, risotto and pizzas are home-made and offer a range of delicious toppings while mains travel from the meltingly tender lamb shank we enjoyed to a traditional Milanese and a great range of freshly caught seafood.Nicholas leaves his legacy imprinted on the DNA here with his legendary sweet tooth showing up in delicious desserts. We ordered them all and it was hard to pick a favourite; sharp lemon tart on a buttery base, real old-fashioned tiramisu, a warm baked chocolate mousse, a crisp apple tart with a crunchy coconut topping and the salted caramel semifreddo, Really, could you choose?Settimo Cielo also offers a great international wine list and affordable imported wines by the glass in addition to some fresh takes on classic cocktails.Go large or eat light, both are possible at Settimo Cielo. The food is delicious, and the restaurant is quite beautiful. Definitely worth putting on the list of great Bali restaurants.
